Clubs & Groups at BHS

All approved extracurricular clubs and organizations are required to perform one service project each semester that is outside of the normal club activities. The organizations whose sole purpose is competition or publication are exempted from this requirement.

Anyone wishing to begin/restart a new club, change your current club sponsor, or add an additional sponsor needs to see Sandi Starr in Room 106 during lunch PRIOR to taking any actions.

African American Association (AAA): The purpose of this organization is to address the needs of the students, to aid in their academic growth and development, enhance leadership skills, generate interest, and allow a chance for the students to show creative and artistic skills. American Field Service (AFS): The main objective of this club is to promote understanding, knowledge, and friendship among people. Sponsor: Ana Loonam, Room S162.

American Red Cross: The purpose of this organization is to assist the school in instituting, encouraging, unifying, and executing projects and plan of service in cooperation with the Greater Houston Area Chapter American Red Cross. Sponsor: Timothy Mitchell, Room 002.

Amnesty International: The purpose of this organization is to act as a chapter of Amnesty International which is a worldwide movement working impartially for the release of prisoners of conscience - those people detained because of their beliefs, race, sex, ethnic origin, language or religion - who have neither used nor advocated violence; fair and prompt trials for all political prisoners; and an end to torture and execution in all cases. Anime Club: The purpose of this club is to let students experience the world of animation. Sponsors: Janice Albright, Library and Mike Mavronicles, Room S161.

Antares: The goal is to host Bellaire College Night and the completion of various service projects. Sponsor: Brian Wolfe, Room E343.

Arabic Club: The purpose is to preserve the cultural and social values inherited from Arab ancestors and to promote unity and culture by means of enlightenment. Sponsor: Fadwa Saqer, Room 223A.

Art Club: The mission is to promote creative activities as related to the visual arts and an environment conducive to the growth and development of each individual member. Sponsor: Jo Zider, Room 211.

Bellaire Amateur Radio Club (BEL-ARC): Registered with the American Radio Relay League with the call sign of KD5GMA. The purpose is to exchange information and cooperation between amateur radio operators and promote radio knowledge. Sponsor: Frank Secor, Room 501.

Bellaire Book Club: The goal is to promote the critical reading of literature outside the classroom and to provide a forum for readers to discuss meaningful works. Sponsor: TBA

Bellaire Cardinal Design (BCD): The purpose is to educate and make aware of the increasing importance of the technology medium of web design and web graphics. Sponsor: Jimmy Newland, Library.

Bellaire International Students Association (BISA): The purpose is to promote diversity and understanding of each other and organize activities in which the participants will demonstrate harmony and respect for differences. Sponsor: Beth Murphy, Room E242.

Bellaire LULAC Youth: The Mission of the League of United Latin American Citizens is to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States.

Bellaire Korean Club: The goal is to promote cultural diversity by celebrating Korean culture. Sponsors: Peter Felix, Room S260 and Sandra Huang, Room S269.

Bellaire Men's Lacrosse: The purpose of this organization is to give male students of Bellaire High School the opportunity to learn and play lacrosse. Sponsors: Jerry Goldman, Room 0003 and Greg Menephee, Room 0009

Bellaire Mock Trial: The purpose is to promote an understanding of the American criminal justice system as well as to foster the skills necessary for successful trial advocacy through simulated courtroom scenarios. Sponsor: Lucy Seward, Room 118.

Bellaire Women's Lacrosse: The purpose of this organization is to give female students of Bellaire High School the opportunity to learn and play lacrosse. Sponsor: Katty Furitsch.

Birdkeepers: Spirit/Service Organization. Eight seniors elected in a school-wide election and under the direction of the principal. Sponsor: David Jackson, Room 124.

Board Room: The goal of this club is to help students expand their strategic abilities by competing in friendly competitions. Sponsor: Tim Daponte, Room S163.

Booster Club: Spirit/Service Organization. The purpose is to promote spirit, good sportsmanship, and unity within the Bellaire community. Membership is open, but the six officers are elected in a school-wide election. Club under the direction of the principal. Sponsors: Dana Thacker and Jerri Nixon, Library.

Business Professionals of America (BPA): This organization is a part of the vocational and career/technical education curriculum preparing students for business and office occupations. Sponsor: Liz Kelm, Room 221.

Chess Club: The goal of the club is to offer chess as a competitive and recreational stimulus, to develop chess skills and mental acuity, and to represent the school at chess tournaments. Sponsor: Mike Mavronicles, Room S161.

Chinese Chess Club: The goal of the club is to allow students a chance to learn and enjoy the fame of Chinese Chess, to spread the Chinese culture, and to diversify the knowledge of the student body about other cultures. Sponsors: Betsy Anderson, Room 307.

Christian Student Union (CSU): The mission is to encourage each other in the Christian faith and reach out to other within the school with the hope and purpose we have found in Christ. Sponsor: Carolyn Tidmore, Room 205 and Cynthia Caster, Room 121.

Future Farmers of America (FFA): The Area III Association of the Texas FFA makes a positive difference by developing the potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through the agricultural education of the students. Sponsor: Joel King, Room 505.

Gay Straight Alliance (GSA): The objectives are to work towards ending homophobia and all forms of intolerance in our school and to make our campus a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment for all students, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.
