Bellaire Magnet Program
LANGUAGE…THE GLOBAL CONNECTION
Bellaire’s World Languages Magnet Program serves students who live outside the school’s attendance zone. Magnet students are transfer students who have a strong interest in studying language, and commit to taking five on-campus credits of World Languages.

Language requirement: 1st language four years,
either levels 1-4 or 2-5, plus one
year of 2nd language
OR
1st language three years, levels 2-4, plus two years of
2nd language
Second language choices: if your 1st language is either Spanish or French, the 2nd language will be one of the following nine languages:

Magnet students should be enrolled in PAP/IB language classes above level
1
OTHER CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS:
Maintain at least a 75 average in all classes, 80 average in languages,
good conduct and attendance.

THE MAGNET PROGRAM AT BELLAIRE HIGH SCHOOL IS ONLY FOR STUDENTS WHO LIVE
OUTSIDE THE BHS ATTENDANCE ZONE.
APPLICATION PROCESS for Bellaire HS:
1. Get a 2010-2011 Application for High School Magnet Programs from any HISD middle school, or download one (copy both sides) from the Houston ISD website.
2. Visit the school during Magnet Awareness Week (November 16-20). Parents are invited to visit Bellaire to meet the Magnet Coordinator any day that week. Presentations will begin each day at 1:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room (located on the main floor near the faculty parking lot).
3. Return the completed application + required documents (listed at the
top of the application) to:

Applications may be turned in any time between Nov. 16, 2009 and Jan. 8, 2010
STUDENTS WITH INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE
CONSIDERED FOR ADMISSION TO BELLAIRE HIGH SCHOOL.
NO APPLICATION RECEIVED AFTER THE POSTMARK DATE OF JAN. 8 CAN
BE CONSIDERED FOR PHASE 1.
4. Plan to bring your child for testing during the week of January 11-15.
The Modern Language Aptitude Test will be given on the Bellaire campus every
afternoon January 11-15, 2010. NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY
Students need #2 pencils and must show picture ID.
Testing Schedule is Monday – Friday January 11-15

Acceptance into the Pre-AP/IB program does not constitute acceptance
into the Magnet program.
Acceptance into the Magnet program does not constitute acceptance into
the Pre-AP/IB program.
Acceptance into the Pre-AP/IB program does not grant acceptance into
Bellaire High School. Students must live in the Bellaire High School attendance
zone
or have an approved transfer to attend Bellaire High School.
